The Tsunami had affected the Fishing Industry of Sri Lanka. This page is dedicated to solve some of the problems in this industry. We cannot solve it for the country but our club's fishing industry project may be helpful to some families to get back to work with knowledge and repair some of the damaged equipments. --- Donald ---

Seven Tsunamis that hit the isle of Lanka

Our Treasurer Dr. Raj Jeganathan visited Trincomalee and filed this mail to the Rotary Culb of Astley UK

................I was in Trincomalee for last few days and had a survey of the needs in the area with regard to the effects of Tsunami.
The President and Executive Committee of the Vivekananda Fishing society were indeed happy to hear that you have come forward to sponsor a Boat. Next step will be that we will get you actual quotations from the manufacturers and suppliers of the Boat, Engine and Fishing gear. Society themselves have a good idea on what they want and their known suppliers and we will also will contact the others in the market and as you have mentioned we will give you a firm quotation before your Tuesday’s meeting.
As regard to their immediate need, they want their engines to be repaired and after my discussion they have given me a letter addressed to you, which is herewith attached for your kind consideration. This we think is a worthy cause since the fisherman hit by Tsunami unable to continue their lively hood without these repairs. If you decide to help, we can get any documentation to be done to ensure the task is properly completed. I also mentioned to them that depending on the Clubs Budget, we might not be able to repair all and only by selecting the ones which can to put to work in a short time.................

----- quote --The support for the proposed funding below, was unanimous.
The £2,500 for the completion of the boat repairs will be with you shortly – a few days. You can rely on that and can assure those hard working guys repairing the engines that the project can continue. It was particularly nice to hear that there are already some boats back out to sea. The £1650 for the new boat will materialize in April. ‘The Spirit of Astley Rotary. The club will then assess what figure it can raise for the psychiatric wing, but I think I am able to safely say that it will be a minimum of £2,000.
We hope this gives you the confidence to organize things and issue instructions. ---- unquote --
