After visiting Matara members decided to construct of a Psychiatric ward. This is a crying need in the area as the Matara is badly effected by Tsunami and huge no of people who have lost their loved once need Psychiatric treatment and infact already there have been some suicidal cases. The Doctor-in-charge is very keen that such a ward is essential and they already have Psychiatric Doctors. Some of our senior Rotarians including our President Dr. Chandana Jayawardena visited the area two weeks ago and are confident that once the ward is constructed and handed over to the Hospital, it will be maintained well and serve the people in the Matara and Hambantota area. The letter from the Doctor is herewith attached. The cost of the project is about US$ 40,000.00 (Forty thousand) and already some Rotary Clubs abroad have pledged support and we wonder whether you would consider to be a co-sponsor of this project. We also understand that this project is not in Governemnts agenda and the Hospital administration is seeking help from service organisation like us.
