It is a great honour to take on the mantle of leadership in this prestigious club. My hope is to lead this club by building on the dedication of our membership in service to society which will show the world that Rotary Cares.
We have a full year’s programme ahead for 2008-2009 in keeping with to our theme Making Dreams Real.
Since joining this club five years ago, I have witnessed the great works and achievements of the Rotary movements. I have seen the happiness on the faces of little children; but I have also seen the needs and expectations of the less privileged and their dreams that remain nothing more than dreams due to lack of opportunity. Seeing the positive and powerful impact of Rotary club movements and programmes on lives, especially young lives, is my motivation to keep working, to keep bringing light and laughter to the faces of our nation’s children.
Rotary being a service organization, and if we are to meet our objective of Making Dreams Real, membership development is of paramount importance. The Rotary Club depends on its members support in order to grow from strength to strength. The longer term future of the club also depends on the contribution of our youth, and I am deeply committed to strengthening our relationships with Interact and Rotaract. We also hold out the same hand of friendship to sister clubs such as Rotary Club of Astley, Rotary Club of Suita West, Rotary Club of Suita Esaka, Rotary Club of Cochin Central, Rotary Club of Madras Central, Göteborg Hovås Rotary Club, The Rotary International Club of Brunswick Maine, Rotary Club of Toyokawa Hoi Japan, Rotary Club of St Ives and Rotary Club of Melvern.
I must congratulate the immediate Past President Nisthar Taha and his board for the excellent work done during 2007/2008.
We in Rotary have a dream; the dream realizing the dreams of others. As president of the Rotary Club, I dedicate myself to this task, and cordially invite you all to join me to care enough to dream and to serve.
