The WCS Poject was commenced by
Rotarian Late Niranjala Dharmadasa.
Project completed
November 21,2008

This project  was listed under WCS to “Improve Functional Literacy” by Colombo Central and agreed sponsorship by Rotary Club of Malvern with the efforts of  Rtn Winston Furlong. The project was to equip the Computer Lab at St Joseph’s Boys School, Nugegoda, a school serving more than 700 students from poor background. At Colombo Central the initial work was handled by Rtn. Niranjala Dharmadasa until her demise in 2008. The project report and liaising with the School and Australia were all done by the untiring work of late Niranjala. We dedicate the successful completion of this task to her.

Thanks also goes to Rtn Winston Furlong of Rotary Club of Malvern who was instrumental in the completion of this worthy project.

The computers were forwarded through Trico Ltd., in May of this year. Although the computers and shipment charges were all an outright grant, the Sri Lanka Customs worked out a hefty Duty and other charges which would have made the project very costly purely due to the costs at this end. However an appeal to Director General of Customs  by the School and Rotary Club of Colombo Central through the efforts of Principal reduced these charges manageable. Subsequently these charges were re-imbursed by Rotary Club of Malvern, the main sponsor. We wish to thank PP Dr. Raj Jeganathan of Colombo Central and his company staff for the work done in the correspondence and communication with Customs officials and safe transport of the Computers to the school.  The photographs taken during this transport operations is herewith attached.

The Principal of the School, Rev. Bro. Robert Miranda, with the help of some IT professionals made sure that computers the accessories are installed suitably in order to best serve the students and the school. The computers were mainly installed at the computer labs and also at  various offices of the school. Please note that the computers were upgraded and casings were installed in order to serve the present needs of the students and staff. Hence all computers are not seen in their original form  Attached are the photographs showing computers after installation during the visit of Rotarians from Colombo Central, namely Treasurer PP Keerthi De Silva, Director PP Dr. Raj Jeganathan and Secretary Dr. Ameer.
